We Live in a World Where The Shepherds Rule

we live in a world
where the shepherds rule
because,
they herd the sheep
who doff their caps
to the shepherds
even when it is obvious
the shepherds are cruel
selfish or corrupt
the sheep never do question
the opulence of the shepherds hut

we live in a world
where the shepherds rule
and the sheep
simply live on the tougher grass
the sheep bleat
and the sheep eat
in a kind of fearful unison
what hope is there
when the sheep read
and the sheep believe every
right wing paper
the shepherds rule
with their dazzling, blinding power
