Book Clever

”i have read a book”,
aye, i said
”and that makes me clever”
oh, i said
so many pages
and each one read
for some they read and read
just to fill their empty head
they look at me
”read this one book”
aye, i say
and that makes you clever, i ask
”oh”, they say
just one book
just the one point of view
and i meant to believe –
that you are an intellectual
spouting random words from authors
”i have read a book”,
aye, i say
”’and that must make me clever”,
no, no i say
