Humbled
it is strange,
when people reach out to you
well, not strange
more humbling,
the ego defeated
by something greater
people and feelings
concern and well meaning
as i sat there
and she spoke to me
i just wanted to hold on
and hug her
till the light dimmed
and everything would be right
i felt guilty
for my own selfish needs
strange, perhaps is not the right word
but strange how you think of yourself
and never think of those around
because you do not think of them as friends
yet often,
they reach out to you
and that, somehow, is truly beautiful
and so very, very humbling
