Abnormal Gems

i need to engage
to connect
to function
to find a way forward
i could keep –
on this course
(of course)
i need to fit in
and then stand out
i am on the outside
just fighting myself
hoping for mountaineers
so i can hang onto this shelf
i am struggling –
but who isn’t?
a life of norms
defined by abnormal gems
