Love Messages in Birthday Cards
you never think of how i feel
you write love messages –
in the cards you send
and then you say with conviction
we should only ever be friends
but when someone else,
finds me,
and falls in love with me
you treat me like a lover
and you treat me like a possession
even though i am neither
with my emotions you play
remaining the most complex weaver
you never think of how i feel
and how sad all this makes me feel
you tell me that we are soulmates
that there will be nothing else
but you dangle hope and opportunity
and i wonder why you do this
and now i wonder from a distance
i think about your life
perhaps a heart can never be consistent
