The Letters These Days
the letters these days
they are different –
they come in envelopes
with a solicitors stamp
legal jargon –
and a no thanks
or they come from crooks
masquerading as banks
does anyone write to me?
with something good
maybe a postcard –
please be here,
if only you could
the letters these days
come through the door
with the same sound
they hit the doormat,
hit the floor
in-between the changing signs
the chime of clocks
and accumulated time
the letters these days
they are so different
