Almost Forty – Written September 2014 (Aged 39)

Almost Forty

almost forty
and friends scattered wide and far
when i twenty
i could not even find enough care
almost forty
and my wishes come true
but damn my parents
they scattered –
six ton of sweet fertiliser
but in reality
i needed help with my stabilisers
almost fifteen
and the wallpaper is coming down
i need to come clean
but i was a child
and i had never painted ceilings
so those parents went wild
and i babysat my feelings
almost forty
and i am picking juice from the fridge
so in love
but please sort out my lid
and make sure it does not flip
we can be together
and make sure that we never slip
