Truly and Deeply

i feel like i have lost you
before i ever got to know you
and even though –
i do not know you
i know enough –
to know i have lost out
i looked at your pictures today
and i thought about a situation
i once again find myself in
and i have to say
it is no way to begin –
if your heart is not in it
but we all have to –
make our own way in life
i know though –
that i have lost her
before i ever got to know her
truly and deeply
