The Gift – Written Friday 26th February 2010 (Aged 35)

The Gift

i never thought –
all those years ago
that this would –
be the life i lived
that this life –
this most unexpected gift
would start to pass –
oh so swift
i never thought –
when i grew my hair
and it became so long
that my twenties would come
and then be gone
living through the noughties
and a decade of hurt
and now, heading towards forty
i never thought –
that this soap opera
in which we all play a part
would have a theme tune –
to the tune of our hearts
i never thought –
all those years ago
that this is the life i would live
