Bitter Soap
people have just woken up –
to the realisation –
that true power –
is held very tight
and the realisation –
that you cannot prise it from their hands
try as you might
the thought we had a say
we even had a vote
people have just woken up –
to the taste of bitter soap
power serves power
not the people it governs
no erudite revelations there
but for a second –
as they take the clay from the ovens
they try to convince us –
that they have made new art
there was a sparkle –
and we were told –
it mattered when you cast your vote
but people have woken up now
to the taste of bitter soap
