You Will Grow Up One Day – Written Between Tuesday 15th February 1994 and November 1994 (Aged 18/19)

You Will Grow Up One Day

you will grow up one day
but do not do it too soon
and do not cry my love
do not do as i have done
i know it is over
why is it so hard to be young
why aren’t we free
growing up should come naturally
but it seems we are all given a part
and we all play along to the script
but what happens –
when you do not want to play along?
do not cry my love,
the times i have felt low
and it found it so hard to believe
the teenage dream is fake and shallow
far too easy to achieve
that is, if you really want it
and when you have got it,
you want something else anyway
do not cry my love,
live for love and the spirit of today
and now it is all over
i have been the drunk poet, the rebel,
the lover
maybe not to great effect
but it never really meant anything
i was left down and out
feeling so little, just feeling nothing
what is it all about
