Cogs – Written Tuesday 11th May 2021 (Aged 46)

Cogs

the mechanisms and institutions –
of our society
have broken people
societal norms
are often, just prison guards
and people
are injured
on the teeth of the whirring cogs
the ones that turn
to power just the wealthiest few
there is no –
collective agreement
no treaty on how we should behave
and the wish to agree by the few
has just left people wanting to be saved
and,
all the history and pomp
is just power for the wealthiest few
the rest of us feel the privileged stomp –
of sickly patriotism in red white and blue
there are,
so called working class
saluting the queen
and there are middle class hopefuls
trying to make their concrete houses gleam
the mechanisms and institutions –
of our society
the family structures we are taught to revere
have broken to many people
leaving them to drown within their own trauma and tears
