Hopes and Dreams – Written Monday 12th April 2021 (Aged 46)

Hopes and Dreams

hopes and dreams
i used to talk about them –
all the time
when i was young
i was never actually sure –
what it actually meant
it’s probably why i often –
got so little done
but my, we had some fun
hopes and dreams
they were never that specific
but words, always, often, prolific
tumbling out of me
in an avalanche of anxiety
as i flirted in a childlike way
with ideas of, ‘insanity’
but when i grew up
and actually understood
aspects of real life mental health
i realised how silly, how childish
i had been around mental wealth
hopes and dreams
i said the words
as if they never had an actual sound
i found people
and i told them like they were friends
hopes and dreams
i used to talk about them all the time
but no one tells you that being young
involves periods of being mentally blind
