I Made a Mess of It

what did i do
i made a mess of it
i tried to,
tried to make my heart skip
when all it wanted to do
was just lie down
i tried to smile
in all the right places
i tried to,
i tried to be perfect
and allay your insecurity
but somehow, along the way
i forgot about me
and making up and seeking approval
is just a version of my childhood
i made a mess of it
i tried to,
i tried to give you –
what you had always dreamed of
i tried to be romantic
and give out the perfect touch
but all i did was make a mess of it
