Seashells – Written Thursday 23rd September 2021 (Aged 46)

Seashells

you listen for the sea in seashells
and you hold those seashells –
up to your ears
but won’t you tell me,
is the sea that near?
maybe the waves are at your shore
maybe the bird of prey swoops in
and extends its claw
maybe you long for a place
far away from life
and its salty kiss and tell
you listen for the sea in seashells
which you hold up to your eager ears
but is it the sound of crashing waves –
or the soft crunch of tears you hear?
