Smallest of Boxes
i never chose –
as a child
the position given –
to me
i never chose –
the opinions –
people had
the tie to my father
i never asked –
to be different
in fact i wasn’t
my differences
were only defined –
by others
and that definitely –
unsettled me –
and contributed –
to my insecurity
and as we grow up
that personal identity
becomes everything
and we resent –
the loved ones –
who put us –
in the smallest of boxes
