Stepping Up – Written Wednesday 18th October 2006 (Aged 31)

Stepping Up

they said that i had stepped up to the mark
and that they were proud of me
but i could have never done it alone
or without them,
they said that they were all so proud of me
but they are my friends
and they are part of who i am
they believe in me and they understand me
they said that i had stepped up to the mark
and i thought back,
to a decade ago,
when youthful enthusiasm had gripped out hearts
but i have grown so much older
we have all started to age
we have all started to change and flourish
even in periods of decay
they said i had proved myself
on such a terrible and difficult night
