It’s A Phrase

if only…
it’s only a phrase
designed to haunt
as we vault hurdles
left by the past
if only…
they’d put their hand up
and asked
not seen and never heard
the tyre tracks of time
the moments,
when it all felt sublime
if only…
they had not been a war baby
born into family conflict
that could not be resolved
if only…
it’s a phrase
designed to haunt
