Something Inside Me

something inside me
not love,
not guilt
not even guilt in top hat and tails
not a voice
not even one that wails
something inside me
feels a connection
cannot choose our family
it’s not like we have a choice
all we are born with is freewill
and our own, unique voice
not love,
not guilt
it’s more of an understanding
that is life,
and but for the grace of some god
there go i
something inside me
like age and maturity
perhaps in its own top and tails
hate, resentment, emptiness
well it always fails
