One Person Boat – Written Monday 23rd October 2006 (Aged 31)

One Person Boat

more or less –
i have always felt comfortable –
with who i am
or at least accepted the parts
which i can never understand
a one person boat,
because as a child i learnt to cope
even when –
i was buffeted by stormy seas
it’s then,
you learn to value the me
i am all too aware –
of the impact a loner personality has
i have seen it –
in the deep sea pools
but i cannot and will not apologise
and of course –
people less confident and envious –
offer their point of view
but those people –
form a pretty long queue
do i sound defensive?
do i sound somehow over the top?
those less comfortable with themselves
well their judgement never stops
and here i am –
justifying myself once more
just me,
the one person boat fighting off pirates –
because there are people –
jealous of the way it appears to float
