Tortured Miles
that frightened me when you said that
when i closed my eyes
dreams were there,
spinning in my head
and nightmares were waiting
to fold down the corners on my bed
people,
do not fall back –
to distant days of the past
what has happened
cannot be changed
do not let memories resurface
or regurgitate their sickly bile
stop the self flagellation
stop walking tortured miles
i know,
trauma is far from optimum fun
but when are you going to say to yourself
yes, well done
i fear losing you to something inside
i see your sadness
reflected back in older eyes
not everything is layer upon layer
that frightened me when you said that
and last night,
in my strangest sleeping
part of fear,
was found prone and then it was weeping
