Venture Forwards
i understand and accept male privilege
but,
conversely,
the expectation,
that it would apply –
left me,
‘high and dry’,
it’s not that i did not have male privilege
it’s just –
i thought everything else was wrong
or everything else did not work
or i simply got overtaken
i did not see it give me any real advantage
because being useless and ill-equipped
is being useless and ill-equipped
and because i was this man,
it was expected –
that everything would fall into place
but everything had fallen out of place
so it was just a situation
of having to make do,
to get on with it,
to venture forwards
male privilege clearly exists –
as a societal thing, a tenant –
but all it did for me was highlight my inadequacy
but, that is okay i am not the world
i just had to rebuild my world
and i had to find some defiance
it is this that eventually built my resilience
and then hopefully, less reliance
