I Surprise Myself

i surprise myself
i am not sure i ever gave myself a chance
especially in those days,
when i was much happier to dance
i am not sure i liked me
especially in those days of lucrative friends
when the marriage,
crashed down the road and came to an end
when it felt easier not to bend
but then,
each stand had such a messy end

i surprise myself
i am not sure i thought i would get here
especially in those days
when i felt such fear
i am not sure i liked me
especially in those former days
when i felt so sure
but then, i could never find a way
and it was so much harder to see sense
when i was selfish,
but i believed i was always well meant
i surprise myself
