Turnstiles – Written Tuesday 28th March 2023 (Aged 48)

Turnstiles

equality feels like –
it comes at the cost of somebody
that even –
those who champion equality
fall to bias
and their own value set
deserving and undeserving
is a human trait
so it seems –
equality for some will have to wait
as if,
it’s about waiting for a turn
stuck at the turnstiles
perhaps power is something to learn
do i sound critical?
slightly smug?
am i slamming down my ego –
with an almighty thud?
do i not realise i am lucky to be alive
speak truth to power,
is how we should strive
maybe that is more than just equality
maybe as a society that’s how we arrive
but then –
i am that cis-gendered white man
giving opinion on equality, once again
