He Would Be King
he would be king
but of what and where?
he would be king
but surely king of nowhere
he would rule a kingdom
of toffee apple trees
and toxic breeze
but he is not the king –
not of you and me
he would be king
of his own space and time
he would king
but the king of vulnerable minds
a king in thought
and one if ill drawn lines
he would king
but king of withered vines
and fatal grapes
a king of too much spare time
he would be king
but of what and where?
the king of keys?
or the king of spares?
the king of toxic politics
the king of musical chairs
of falsehoods and shiny lies
a king of this and that
a king of madness
