Barbed Wire Fence (The Lifelong Struggle) – Written Sunday 28th May 2023 (Aged 48)

Barbed Wire Fence (The Lifelong Struggle)

everyone’s life,
is a lifetime –
of pretence where wellbeing is a menace
and happiness –
is in the dock, often giving a poor defence
because everyone’s life,
is entangled with a barbed wire fence

trust,
is never lent,
hope,
often looks buckled and bent
and stability camps out in a one person tent

everyone’s life –
is a boxing match
where you are lucky if you win the fight
everyone’s life,
is a book, one about the invention of fire
and whether you can find the light

love,
is never let
and it fidgets, never sitting still
that is why at night you do sleep
but you turnover to see how it feels

    1. Thankyou – I’ve struggled a bit with the layout and amended it a few times, still not entirely happy but I am happy with the separate stanzas. It was originally called ‘Lifelong Struggle’ and put this back in next to, ‘Barbed Wire Fence’. Thank you 🙂
