All I Ever Wanted

all i have ever wanted is an apology
because to me that shows understanding
that shows empathy
and it shows respect
it’s pride before a fall
learn to be a lighthouse keeper
learn to walk tall
all i have wanted is an apology
as lofty as that might seem
as arrogant as hopeful dreams
in searching through the past
you are searching for understanding
and when you do not find it
that must be so hard to bear
an apology would resolve my hurt
it would show you empathise
that you understand and that it might work
