Nobody’s Fool
i am nobody’s fool
grew up with far too much going on
and i saw every trick in the book
and a few never added
i am nobody’s fool
there are no lies,
therefore there are no excuses
because i have heard them all
i used to receive them –
for birthdays and christmas when i was small
i am nobody’s fool
i sometimes yawn when people lie to me
especially when i see it in their eyes
convinced that they have convinced me
no matter the lie or the size
i am nobody’s fool
i have seen and known every weakness in me
i have faced down my flaws
i have sat in bedrooms,
my tearful body against too many doors
i am nobody’s fool
i see through every psychological trick
i see the foundations,
and i see every loose brick
pretence with me always fails
it does not blow guiding wind into my sails
i am nobody’s fool
i have seen all of your nightmares
and i have lived your extremes
and i have learned to love my dreams
i am nobody’s fool
