I Just Can’t Help Who I Am

i try be all these things
this, well rounded man
but my sharp edges are always exposed
i just can’t help who i am
and who i am,
just can’t be helped
i try to be the dream
straight out of the romance novel
but my novelty soon wears off
and we are all left to tread on gravel
i want to be the father
not mine perhaps, but yours
because i have crawled out of a bin
and no matter what the situation
you always look up to him
i try to be all these things
the clean living perfect man
but my sharp edges are too easily exposed
i just can’t help who i am
and who i am just can’t be helped
i just hope you can understand
