Younger Self
i do not want to change younger self
only ever –
tried to make the best of what i had
even when –
i did not know what i had
or i had not learnt new skills
when i chased pretty faces –
and deadly thrills
but younger self now –
poses questions for older me
it stares at me from the pages
with piercing biro eyes
and broken emotions
it asks me to broker a peace treaty
to reconcile with guilt and shame
and to trust the shapes of my name
younger self now steps into view
it points at me and my point of view
it plays a part –
in revealing what i never knew
i do not want to change younger self
but i am face to face with toxicity
occasionally dampened by kindness
reconciling that as younger things
you can experience emotional blindness

Ah. This was written in response to a discussion we had, you wrote something for me. So I was inspired by our conversation to write this. I also added the biro bit when I typed this up.
