Someone Tell You The Truth
why didn’t she sit you down
and try to wipe away the tears
change the quizzical frown
why did she lose respect
swap hopes and dreams
for poor, poor second best
has she sat you down
and held you close
she could have diverted guilt and fear
emotionally guided you
and then adult life would have looked –
so very different
with so many stages to learn
but with self confidence groomed
and an identity defined
one which was so devoid of blame
had she done all this
had she parented,
had you had loving nurture
you may not have been so damaged
and better prepared for the future
