Sparkle
you lost your sparkle –
in the melee of life
the engagement –
that became disengagement
the mother love
to a hurtful sea of rage
you and i are older
so much older –
than when we first met
life has been –
giving us memories
and traces of regret
a sack full of belly laughs
and a dose of respect
you lost your sparkle
the twinkle,
the smile,
the humour,
the glint in your eyes
lost perhaps to a younger age
when we puffed out our chests
and rattled the cage
