Long To Belong – Written May 2007 (Aged 32)

Long To Belong

there is a truth
and that truth is simple
they are scared,
and they must feel separate
and surely,
long to belong
that little girl and her smile
has been away for a while
have they succumb to a fate
it’s a long time –
since that day on the boating lake
there is a truth
and that truth is –
that they are unsure of who they are
and yet,
they are too afraid to ask
and too scared to take part
too scared to look under the rug
which is where all the hurt was swept
to scared to stand up
and too scared to accept
but that is not their fault
that is the fault –
of those who plundered her heart –
like a treasure vault
who looked wounds and rubbed in salt
and the truth is –
adulthood has no actual resolution
and thirst never dries for solutions
the little girl and her smile
has been away for a while
somehow made to feel alone
why did no one welcome them home
