Did You Have a Past?

did you ever sit on the cliffs
and just watch the estuary flow past
were you ever –
so high on those cider dreams
did you have those dates –
that appeared to be mistakes
and then in years to come –
watch the tears become replaced
by a smile across your face
did you leave school –
kicking your heels,
left wondering what it all means
did you go and waste it all
be barely contained at the seams
did you watch that estuary flow past –
so high on cheap cider dreams
did you love and explore every feeling
did people come and then go,
as they made an imprint on your soul
shoulder the heartache,
make you laugh
i wonder what world you emerged into
did you ever have a past?
