Feet of Clay – Written November 2010 (Aged 35)

Feet of Clay

i felt the distance
an ice cube
in the lime and vodka of life
a pram –
in the hilly regions of my night
i sat down –
only to remember the past
it came in flashes –
running across film so very fast
i saw concrete –
but all this feels tough
and does my work not matter
does who i am become a mirror
or some kind of platter?
i sagged in the middle
the play would not stay
and i found i was in a middle
struggling to turn on the day
with the heart of hold
but feet of clay
