A Connection Or Touch

families appear large and complex
at least to my eyes
hard to express emotions inside
because some are stifled
and some have died
i cannot tell you,
let alone explain why
so i try to fit in
find the perfect course
yet never sure where to begin
so jokes,
got cracked in the wrong places
and blank looks abound –
on well meaning faces
so silence offers me a holiday
and i eagerly pack its case
families offer me so much love
at least to my eyes
a connection or touch
