Francine – Written August 2005 (Aged 30)

Francine

a jewish medium sat me down
and they read my palm
she remarked on my mischievous smile
and all of my tomfoolery
then she put her hand on mine
and she read the imprint of my jewellery
i left her house, the one by the sea
i got back on the train
and i struggled to find me
dead people leave you in such a mess
truth is i lost all this at seventeen
when i knew that i would never be the same
and then people say,
they know me inside out
and nothing here is a surprise
they clearly believe they do
but they do not know about the jewish medium
and in that sense, they do not have a clue
she took me as a child,
and helped me become a man
it was a journey i made with someone else
and it is almost impossible to understand
but everything changed,
when she sat me down and looked at my hands
