Closer To Home – Written June 2006 (Aged 31)

Closer To Home

you said that it was fortunate –
that the relationship with my dad
was not yours
i suggest,
on sunday when you walk indoors
and, if you are able –
as you sit down for dinner –
you think about the silence
as it drips from the table
avoiding him as you are able
another sunday roast –
with a dressing of silence
of a family never really bonded
of a daughter’s relationship
built upon abuse
so i suggest,
before you pass judgement –
on those around you
just think about being alone
and before you start offending others
take a look, much closer to home
