Let Myself Down Again

i have underachieved
i have let myself down
one more birthday
one more town
i have not quite reached my potential –
of who i should be
i have randomly selected –
the wrong answers too quickly
the fire is not quite out
my material possessions –
are a comfort
but hardly soul searching lessons
i have underachieved
i thought i could dream forever
that is all i seem to believe
i remember our magic spells
where is the magic now to weave
i promised so much,
and delivered so little
i offered bullet proof dreams
that in the end were actually quite brittle
