Demands
when you are loved by someone
and that love demands –
that you must be someone
then it is not love at all
instead,
it is insecurity from someone still young
and if you refuse,
or hold back and say, wait
then you have lit the fuse
and it explodes into a shower of hate
then you watch as they maul you
destroying who you are
feeling foolish and rejected once again
they rage against you
unable to deal with their feelings
their love turns to a hate
that had in fact, always lurked inside
the one with firelighters
behind sweet abused eyes
and all the meanness bubbles up
from that time in their life
when they did not give it enough
