The Melt (Second Version) – Written March 2016 (Aged 41)

The Melt

you want to be, ‘young again’
you will not admit it
but you crave that past
discoloured photographs
days that flew past
i cannot criticise
i know that longing and that regret
it can burn inside
and if the truth were ever told
middle aged can feel middle old
but you hanker after that youth
those days, those times
it all looks so innocent
and yet, it is so far in the past
