The Melt – Written March 2016 (Aged 41)

The Melt

i see people, just my age
fighting and wrestling with their past
trying to peer through the dirty glass
those care free days,
look so painless in discoloured photographs
young faces peeping into view
those choices you had to make
when you never really knew –
the awkwardness of growing up
matched by the excitement of the, ‘new’
i have felt it,
how stupid was i when i was young
i could wince at my younger self
i could feel the heat,
i can feel the melt
