The Past is a Thing of Burden
i would like to write you a letter
i would like to be closer to you
but the past is a thing of burden
always there,
always lurking
peering through memories
i would like you to be here now
so i do not have to imagine
i spent a whole weekend on my friend
and slowly,
i self examined
i watch as a moon shines from the sky
and a claw from the past looms high
i would like you to be here
the past is a mask,
and time does seem to pass
but it is always there,
always lurking
and the past is always a thing of burden
