Burst Every Balloon

i did not find you
all i found –
was a link to the past
rusty,
and feeling sorry for itself
lying,
through it’s chattering teeth

i did not find you
all i found –
was a screwed up psyche
busted,
and prone to bouts of fantasy
weird medicine,
for a damaged ego
and hollow self esteem –
which had burst every balloon –
attached to every dream

i did not find you –
all i found –
was a packet of blank cards
empty,
and with no ability to give
