Back Then I Thought She Was a Goddess
it was that awkward conversation
the type,
where people are trying to stop you –
from digging up the past
the type,
full of surface politeness
but you know that tension is still attached
and as you dig up the past,
they are hurriedly trying to put it back
but, back then –
emotional affairs were par for the course
they could swallow me up
and stop me thinking i was bored
back then, she had been a goddess
but now, i am not no sure
she had kept some correspondence
but memories of how she once thought
she did not share,
not to my older eyes
in conversation she appeared vulnerable
and certainly not what i had once seen
it was that awkward conversation
the type that once may have been a dream
but most people move on with some haste
and can never come clean over emotional affairs
that eventually went to waste
