Costing
i thought once (long ago) –
that my cost,
my personal human cost
either had to be paid by everyone else –
or it was simply, ‘tough’
tough, that is who i am…
because to me that meant i was enough
and if they did not get that,
then how could they ever truly understand
all that…
all that insecure posturing
i wonder now,
who was i convincing?
now i know though,
i know my cost
and i know that it is not for others to pay
without question,
it is for me to do the emotional sums
and for me to be accountable
to make sure i manage my own account
‘like it or lump it’,
is such an over used phrased
in the factory of well worn cliches
it is one that is too often made
and all that,
‘take me as i am’,
is just an unfortunate phrase,
used by me as a former very broken man
