Climbing Up

rough edges –
not smoothed down
laughter lines –
finding a frown
climbing up –
sophistication climbing down
rough edges –
not smoothed down
keeping out –
with a particular sound
prettiness not an illusion
but kinder words run around
rough edges –
not smoothed down
i am coarse by the stolen town
happy by the merry-go-round
rough edges –
not smoothed down
