People Apply Filters
people apply filters –
to pictures of themselves
don’t like what they see
but who else is there to be?
what is there not to like
this need to obscure our own sight
people invent narratives,
for their life,
‘quirky husband’,
‘arty wife’,
in comes searing pretension
as reality takes a long hike
who else is there to be
and is there anything to like
a world,
where filtered pictures are the norm
well earned age lines,
are suddenly shorn
drawn on faces stare out to greet us
the insecurity is rampant,
sadly, just being ourselves
so often, it’s just not enough
