Hold Onto It
hold onto it
because life –
goes past in a flash
it’s the quickest of flights
and when –
you are looking back
wondering what –
might have been
lost,
in regretful smoke
and fanciful pipe dreams
lost in jokes –
and other beings
just, just hold onto it
you should know –
that life –
is both soft and dense
both frivolous –
and at all once, immense
who knows what paving slabs –
decisions will lay
who knows the consequences –
of the words we say
or in fact once said
there are only –
pathways which we tread
the byways of our days
the pieces which do –
and sometimes do not fit
all you and i can do –
is make sure we hold onto it
