The Right Things
i say the right things,
smile in the right place,
but they do not know me,
and they have no idea
of what or who i am.
but then, they do not care,
and they do not care to understand.
they are disappointed in me,
but they never consider
that i may be disappointed in them.
they never ask me for an opinion,
and never wonder
if i may think of them
in the same way they think of me.
this type of thinking
takes me back to those years
when i slogged it out in call centres
and wondered
when i would get a chance to prove myself.
i thought, all those years ago,
that i was somebody else,
but maybe not.
maybe i am just a feeling,
the kind that time has slowly forgot.
